Guidance Document Change: The 2020 Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 753 directing the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to develop guidance standards for social emotional learning (SEL) for all public students in grades Kindergarten through 12 in the Commonwealth. The Virginia Social Emotional Learning Standards were developed in collaboration with an SEL Advisory Committee, composed of educators, community leaders, agency personnel, and parents. The Virginia SEL Standards are aligned with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate and centered in equity. This intentional focus allows the Standards to explicitly teach the skills needed to be “life ready” and to create more equitable learning environments.

laughable

Each person whose name is attached to this garbage curriculum should be fired.  I will do everything I can as a voter and advocate of public schools to also have these VDOE positions eliminated.  At the local level, teachers, counselors and principals will listen to us parents and I guarantee my children will not be made to answer inappropriate questions, or listen to this hyper-political social justice crusade.  Although these idiotic "experts" think they can infiltrate kids to become social activists according to their politics, it starts in the home!  My 12 & 9 year olds can see through these standards, and I am teaching them to respectfully respond to any teacher that tells them to apologize for their "privilege" or wastes their time with prying questions into their personal relationships/decision-making etc with a "can I get back to my schoolwork now?" These standards are simply laughable.  Nice try, VDOE, how about you find an actual job to do? #eliminatevdoe #schoolchoice
