Guidance Document Change: The 2020 Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 753 directing the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to develop guidance standards for social emotional learning (SEL) for all public students in grades Kindergarten through 12 in the Commonwealth. The Virginia Social Emotional Learning Standards were developed in collaboration with an SEL Advisory Committee, composed of educators, community leaders, agency personnel, and parents. The Virginia SEL Standards are aligned with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate and centered in equity. This intentional focus allows the Standards to explicitly teach the skills needed to be “life ready” and to create more equitable learning environments.

Commenter: We have a choice to give our children an appropriate education

My children will no longer enroll in public school if this legislation passes

A few loud voices and the political narrative pushed in the mainstream media wants to make our society believe that CRT and “social awareness”(which is in itself bias and racist) is what everyone wants. What most people want is to work together, to celebrate each other, and to get along. In the real world most people want to take care of each other and live. We don’t need a curriculum teaching group division and hate. This is how the country remains divided and people are controlled. Unfortunately no one is allowed to speak up against this push to break our communities down. Due to cancel culture backlash there can be no reasonable discussion. We the people don’t want this. It’s getting pretty old, and those who are paying attention aren’t falling into the propaganda. Let schools stick to academics and not try and impose a skewed morality on kids.
