Social and emotional learning is critical to healthy child and adolescent development. The proposed SEL standards are based in rigorous research and align with best practices worldwide. SEL has been shown to significantly improve student academic and behavioral outcomes. Furthermore, longitudinal research over many decades has demonstrated that students who engage in SEL are more likely to be successfully employed and less likely to be incarcerated. SEL will reduce costs associated with these negative outcomes. I strongly support these standards.
