Social emotional learning is foundational! Academic achievement cannot be attained until (and unless) children are emotionally and socially functional. Improved social-emotional skills in students would reduce the amount of time and effort that must be expended by teachers on non-academic tasks and would support better school outcomes. SEL is absolutely essential and should certainly be taught within Virginia public schools. It is a life skill that is as critical for success in life as reading!
