Guidance Document Change: The 2020 Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 753 directing the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to develop guidance standards for social emotional learning (SEL) for all public students in grades Kindergarten through 12 in the Commonwealth. The Virginia Social Emotional Learning Standards were developed in collaboration with an SEL Advisory Committee, composed of educators, community leaders, agency personnel, and parents. The Virginia SEL Standards are aligned with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate and centered in equity. This intentional focus allows the Standards to explicitly teach the skills needed to be “life ready” and to create more equitable learning environments.

Stop promoting hatred, racism, and division in our schools

What you say you want -- equity, no bias, social justice, no racism, inclusion, empowering students, etc. is not only not being achieved with your approaches and new curriculum, but is also moving in the opposite direction. My kids have never felt less included, more hated, and less empowered in any time in their lives. In addition, my kids never saw skin color, but now it is all they see, since it's forced down their throats every day in every class. It's causing them anxiety, causing them to hate school, causing them to lose friends and social connections because of their skin color, and causing them to have no motivation to learn. Kids are being attacked and threatened on social media, and there is more bullying than ever before.  Keep politics and activism out of schools. You are destroying our children, cheating them out of a good education, and not setting any of them up for a successful future.
