SEL - YES, Please.

Education is about-

1) formation of a springboard to a lifetime of content/skills;
2) a love of learning that lasts beyond k-12,
3) ability to work with others (including those that aren't exactly like you),
4) acceptance of a broader worldview than a single city or county, and
5) being each person's individual best self

It is way past time for these standards to make it into practice. The sooner we get started in earnest the sooner all children will have access to an educational system that can provide the above.

For the naysayers-

Please explore what SEL (and THIS legislation) actually focuses on, and not the extreme view and interpretation that shows itself in the comments.

For those who say there's no research supporting the need for SEL and the impact on enhancing student academic performance-

I have a hard time seeing how this content is anything other than supportive of the one unified country, with perhaps a little more empathy and willingness to acknowledge that we ARE, actually, better together.

The draft SEL Standards cover theses 5 competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and decision making.
