I support allowing law abiding citizens to carry firearms for personal defense in State Forests.  However, I would like to request a hearing to discuss also allowing the open carry of firearms by those citizens that are not prohibited by law from possessing a firearm.  The open carry of firearms is a protected right throughout the Commonwealth, and a September 2008 Attorney General opinion stated that the current restriction on open carry in Virginia State Parks is preempted by State law.
