Support of Professional Soil Scientists

I see more and more development and pressure on more and more marginal areas, especially in the crescent region of the Commonwealth. There has never been a more critical time in our history than now to acknowledge a professional class of subject matter experts. Jurisdictions and colleagues of other professions RELY on the interpretation, guidance, understanding and experience of the Licensed Professional Soil Scientists every day! Many identify the need for this profession and designers and residents alike benefit from this unique expertise! Additionally, in the agricultural sector, there is continued emphasis on accurate mapping, precision methods, high-cost establishment barriers (grape vines, hops, cider apples, etc) where our producers / future producers NEED to be able to discern which services  / advisors / consultants are backed by ethical standards, continued education / industry advancements, a professional network and accountability.

From my perspective, the licensure has only advanced Virginia's economy, market position, credibility and quality of products (from housing, infrastructure, stormwater BMP's, and agriculture). Recognition, accountability, continued education and a high standard of professionalism for Soil Scientists is paramount for Virginia.
