SUPPORT the continued regulation of soil scientists

Virginia should continue to regulate soil scientists.  Soil scientists play a primary role in determining whether or not land will "perk."  This term refers to the percolation of wastewater, a key consideration in the placement of onsite wastewater disposal systems (septic tanks and drainfields).  Improper analysis of soil conditions can result in system failure, pollution of surface water and groundwater, and loss of property value.  This is a matter of the health of the citizens of Virginia.  Qualified, certified, regulated soil scientists are necessary for the advancement of economic development statewide, but especially in rural areas without municipal wastewater systems.  Therefore, Virginia should continue to regulate this field of practice.
