Backflow Prevention Device Worker support for continued certification requirements

Loudoun Water, as a water purveyor, manages the Cross Connection Program which is regulated by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).  Backflow devices are a necessary component to maintaining safe drinking water, a critical component for protecting public health.  Competent testing and maintenance are essential for proper operation of these devices.

To eliminate certification through VDH Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations (DPOR) would be in direct conflict with the proposed changes to the VDH Waterworks Regulations [12 VAC 5 – 590], which are currently under review and final edit by the Waterworks Advisory Committee.  These regulations are slated to undergo final review by the Virginia Board of Health before the end of the year.

Loudoun Water does not support the proposed elimination of the certification program Backflow Prevention Device Workers by the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations (DPOR).

Loudoun Water firmly supports continuing the certification requirements for Backflow Prevention Device Worker.
