LA Licensure Keeps Communities Safe and Ensures Continued Expertise in Long Term Planning

Licensure is essential to maintaining the integrity of the landscape architecture profession. Landscape architects have a direct impact on the health, safety, and welfare of the public and licensing ensures that their projects serve the people and keep them safe. Landscape architects are the glue that binds so many projects together- by removing licensure they would no longer be able to lead many projects in which they are the lead expert, to the detriment of many community projects that are essential in today's world. For example, projects that require expertise in flood remediation and resilience should be lead by an expert in both form and function, with a firm grasp on the way these projects impact the communities that require them. Removing licensure means that these projects will be lead by others in industries that are not experts across the board in these fields and the projects will suffer. Flooding is a major issue in the southeast US, and we cannot afford to leave flood resilience projects in the hands of unqualified project leaders.
