Safe schools for all

Masks save lives. So does social distancing. Young children need to see a teacher pronounce words. Perhaps see through plastic shields would suffice. We cannot socially distance 800-2000 kids in a school without considering a hybrid schedule where a certain amount of kids come each day- allowing for 1-1 time with teachers and reducing the risk of spreading Covid. I am most comfortable with a rotating schedule (1/2 on campus, 1/2 off campus). This allows for proper cleaning and sanitation. Some teachers could be focused/ trained on distance learning while others teach in class. Same curriculum. Friday’s could be catch up day, virtual appointment with teachers by appointment. I am extremely apprehensive about my child getting sick because 1) parents dose kids before coming to school to hide fevers or minimize coughing. 2) I’m also concerned for every worker from custodian to principal who may be at higher risk. I do not support 5 day week until we see how the fall goes and what the virus does in late fall/ early winter. Thank you.
