I certainly support the suggested changes to the regulation, but feel that true OPEN CARRY would be a prudent enhancement. 

Open carry, besides often being safer and serving as a passive deterrent, is a fundamental right that we enjoy as free citizens. Where better to acknowledge this right than on public land, often hours away from law enforcement or other first responders if needed. 

I support the new regulation, but I am asking for a hearing on allowing for the open carry of handguns in State Forests.This would bring State Forests into compliance with a formal opinion (08-043) published in September 2008 by the Virginia Attorney General.
