Education Will Achieve More Effect Than Regulation

Please undertake a campaign to educate citizens on the proper use of face masks. As one who has worked in an operating room, I received training in the use of surgical masks to achieve and maintain surgical asepsis. This means putting on a mask, adjusting it so that it conforms to the face, and then not touching it again except to take it off. All of these steps are important because not following any one of them can render the mask a reservoir and a vehicle of pathogen transmission instead of the barrier to pathogen transmission it was intended to be.

Rumors also have to be dispelled that surgical masks increase CO2 intake and lower immune function.

Moreover, stress in your education that FREQUENT and thorough hand washing is the greatest medical advance EVER, far more important than wearing masks.

Mandates are largely unproductive. Mandates without a concomitant increase in education and training are COUNTERPRODUCTIVE.

Thank you for your consideration of these thoughts.
