Only law abiding citizens will respect the laws, criminals don't - as we've seen too often.  If citizens are not allowed to defend themselves criminals will have the advantage as statistics reveal they do in places where gun control is imposed like in DC - there, the crime rate is high, but in NoVA, where the 2nd Amendment is respected it is considerably lower.
