Standards of Practice

I highly recommend that the Board define the standard of practice for performing any soil evaluation that the Field Book for Describing and Sampling Soils published by the National Soil Survey Center, National Resources Conservation Service of the U. S. Department of Agriculture is utilized for all sites.  We should all be tested on the use of the field book and how to apply it.  All sites evaluated will use this as a common language for describing soil profiles and for the preparation of site characterization reports.  If this is done, every soil professional should be qualified to evaluate all sites, regardless if a conventional or alternative system is used.  The information provided to the end user for the design of the system will be consistently communicated.  If a licensed soil evaluator is ever brought before DPOR for any reason, this document should be used as one of the standards for determining malpractice.
