It was an exciting day when the Governor signed HB 1609 signalling the return of horse racing in the Commonwealth.  I personally was there for the originally opening day, years ago, and am thrilled to see the sport return to our state!   Keeping horses on farms foaling, grazing, breeding and training here in Virginia,will bring great economic benefit to our state; farming will sustain, jobs will be generated, tourism will flourish and horse related companies and investors will be attracted to establish their "home" here. Racing is in Virginia's DNA and once lost can now thrive with the necessary ingredients and support. It is important that regulations do not stymie the progress being made and opportunities that will result from the return of horse racing.  I would like to encourage the Virginia Racing Commission to work with the horse industry on sensible and appropriate regulations that will enable the industry to thrive.   Thank you
