Please Protect the Health and Safety of Women

I recently had a colonoscopy in a Virginia surgical facility. I was amazed at the number of people who were involved in my care before the procedure. My heart and blood pressure were monitored constantly, and I received IV fluids. My procedure was delayed for a few minutes to make sure that the operating room has been sanitized. At least three people in addition to the doctor were attending me in the operating room. Although the risk of a perforation or other serious problem was very low, I was reassured that good emergency care was available because a major hospitalwith which my doctor was affiliated, was only blocks away. I felt very comfortable and had no qualms about undergoing the procedure. Women who are undergoing an abortion--which is considerably more invasive and risky and involves much more complex emotions--deserve the same careful care.

Please do not weaken the health and safety regulations for abortion clinics. The unfortunate women who resort to using these facilities deserve the same good, safe care that I received.
