Preserve (Expand!) Vital Health and Safety Regulations for Virginia Women

Regulating abortion centers just makes good sense.  Anytime, anywhere a doctor is practicing medicine, patients rely on the appropriate regulatory agencies to advocate for them to ensure their safety.  Regardless of one's stance on the morality of abortion, women are a vulnerable patient population when it comes to those who stand to make money off of their struggle as they grapple with emotional, financial, familial and/or physical concerns.  Strict controls over abortion centers and providers are essential for the health and safety of Virginia women and must be maintained, not weakened.  Regardless of whether the abortions provided are chemical or surgical, potentially life-threatening side effects are possible.  Regulatory agencies must provide a system where these risks are reduced as much as possible.  The burden of safety should be as strict as possible.

The suspension of operations at a Fairfax abortion facility due to 26 health and safety violations proves that the regulations are working and must be preserved as is, not watered down. The abortion industry has fought regulation for years, yet repeatedly independent inspectors find serious deficiencies, even during announced inspections. Abortion centers are not able to self-regulate. Abortion is not healthcare because it ends lives instead of healing them. However, since abortion operates under the guise of healthcare, abortion centers must adhere to the regulatory standards of other healthcare facilities. Simply, Virginia women deserve nothing less.”
