Amateur Boxing and Safety - No comparison

I've boxed for more than 18 years in many countries.

The safety protocol of boxing, especially amateur boxing, has no comparison. Referees constantly monitor the health and state-of-being of the fighters. He or she can call a halt at anytime  to check on the boxer, can give an 8 count when deemed necessary, or wave the fight off. Unanswered shots are quickly evaluated.

With all respect to MMA, but it is still crude in regards to safety. Also, the sport allows for more defining and damaging moves; kicks to the head (no padding), elbows, and slams (neck damage.)

Boxing is a culture, and Virginia is known to put out great kids in boxing. The OLYMPIAN for this coming season is Shakur Stevenson, a product of Alexandria Boxing Club, VA !   Troy Isley, Antoine Douglas, the list goes on. Boxing is a way of life and part of the VA culture. Businesses will feel the pain if boxing dies in VA.

Please do not support this ban on Amateur boxing tournaments. Boxing keeps these kids in the gyms and out of the mean streets; where they may be a part of crime and sure death; unlike boxing.

Many young men and women are now financially well because of their upbringing in boxing; either because they're pro-champs or they were disciplined to become a successful person in society.
