It is a public safety hazard for physical therapists to practice any therapy that involves the invasive puncturing of the skin with needles. Physical therapy school was not designed to prepare PTs to practice this type of treatment. It is FRAUD for PTs to be marketing Acupuncture under any other name. Acupuncture is not within the scope of physical therapy practice which involes non-invasive manual therapies ONLY. The purpose of specialization is to allow the public to find a practitioner with the highest level of training and expertise in that field. By allowing other practitioners to use Acupuncture needles and call it another name is a clear violation of both public trust and safety. The public will assume that PTs have the same training and expertise as a Licensed Acupuncturist, which they do not!!! Please maintain the integrity of the various healthcare modalities by only allowing those with an acupuncture license and acupuncture training to practice acupuncture. Dry needling IS acupuncture.
