If students are allowed to work on my pet, especially first or second year students, without proper supervision (and I mean a licensed vet standing right there over the student's shoulder) and especially without my consent or knowledge I would go somewhere else.  I'm not that far from North Carolina and there are many specialists around to turn to.  There are no shortcuts in trying to learn a profession especially one that is so near and dear to people's hearts.
