Not long ago a parent "learned her son was required by his public school AP English class to read a book with graphic depitions of gang rape, molestation, bestiality, and violence towards children.  Equally disburbing, the failure to notify [the parent] prior to the assignment is normal operating procedures."  This is unacceptable.  Guidelines are needed, ones that respect parents' (ans students') values.  Thank you.
