I have been on a CCC waiver for several years. Things change so frequently that it is impossible for me to keep up with it all. Being sick as well as stressed doesn't help anything. I have relied on my Service Facilitator to keep me informed and help me navigate my services and care. Moms in Motion has been invaluable in coordinating my services. Having that personal relationship with my facilitator has been a constant in my ever changing care needs. I can not imagine having to deal with a broker who may or may not come around every 3 months. I am quite sure that it will be almost impossible to get help with questions and issues that arise from someone who has no personal relationship with me. I do not want to be another number. Good help is hard to find these days. Law makers sit back and propose changes when they have no idea of the Impact it will have on constituents. They have not walked in our shoes or been in the situation. They assume. If they could put themselves in our shoes I am sure they would reconsider many of their choices.
This 56 hour cap is also a joke! My son cares for me. He is on duty 24/7. I require his assistance for almost everything since my stroke. They have cut his hours back 12 hours a month since then. He has his CDL yet he has given that up to care for me. I was a caregiver before I became sick suddenly. It is an extremely hard job. Caregivers are under appreciated, and under paid. Each situation is different. They should be handled on case by case basis. These proposed changes are detrimental to peoples lives. We should have a say in our care. It should not be left up to persons who are oblivious to our needs and challenges of daily living. LEAVE OUR SERVICE FACILITATORS ALONE! THEY ARE ESSENTIAL IN OUR CARE. JUST SAY NO TO BROKERS! LEAVE OUR HOURS ALONE!
