Keep Service Facilitators instead of Brokers

I am writing to strongly express my concern about replacing Service Facilitators with Service Brokers and, specifically, my desire to continue receiving Service Facilitation through Moms in Motion.

Moms in Motion is not simply a company that helps me complete paperwork. They have become a trusted and familiar resource that I rely on to help me navigate the Consumer-Directed Services program. They understand my situation and have experience helping me with the requirements, responsibilities, documentation, and changes that come with managing Consumer-Directed Services.

That established relationship matters.

Consumer-Directed Services is supposed to give individuals greater control over their own care and allow them to make decisions based on what works best for them. For me, having the ability to continue working with Moms in Motion is part of that control.

I do not believe consumers should be forced to leave a Service Facilitator who has already earned their trust and understands their needs simply because the state decides to change the structure of the program.

Changing to a Service Broker could create unnecessary disruption. I would have to establish a new relationship, explain my circumstances again, learn a different system, and adjust to new procedures. For consumers and families who are already dealing with the responsibilities of managing attendants and services, another major change can create additional stress and confusion.

Moms in Motion has already invested the time to understand me and my needs. I should not have to start over with someone new when the current relationship is working.

I also believe that consumers should have meaningful choices—not choices that exist only on paper. If I am satisfied with the assistance and support I receive from Moms in Motion, I should have the ability to say, “This is what works for me, and I want to keep it.”

I understand that DMAS has a responsibility to oversee Medicaid services and make sure programs are operating effectively. However, improving oversight does not have to mean taking away relationships that consumers depend on. If there are concerns with the current system, those concerns can be addressed while still allowing consumers to retain Service Facilitators who are providing effective and valuable support.

I respectfully ask DMAS to listen to the consumers who are directly affected by these changes.

Please allow consumers to retain their existing Service Facilitators, including Moms in Motion, when that relationship is working. Do not take away our ability to choose the people and organizations that we trust to help us navigate Consumer-Directed Services.

For me, this is about more than a program change. It is about continuity, trust, stability, independence, and consumer choice.

I am asking DMAS to consider the real-life impact of this change on consumers and their families and to preserve the option for consumers like me to continue receiving Service Facilitation through Moms in Motion.

Thank you for taking the time to hear my concerns and, most importantly, the voices of the people who depend on these services.

Respectfully,

Karen Reed (EOR/Parricipant)
