To the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS):
I am writing as a parent caregiver and resident of Rockingham County to express my deep frustration, stress, and anxiety regarding DMAS's decision to remove the EVV (Electronic Visit Verification) live-in exemption for families like mine.
As a parent providing 24/7 care to my child, our days are already filled with immense physical and emotional demands. Forcing live-in parent caregivers to clock in and out through an electronic system adds an unnecessary, overwhelming layer of bureaucratic stress to an already exhausting daily routine.
The removal of the live-in exemption for EVV is a major concern for my family. It forces us to constantly worry about cell phone apps, technical glitches, and tracking specific hours instead of allowing us to focus 100% of our energy and attention on what truly matters: the health, safety, and well-being of our children.
We live with our children; we do not leave a corporate job site. Our home is the care site, and our commitment is constant. Requiring parent caregivers to log exact hours digitally does not improve the quality of care; it only creates unnecessary administrative roadblocks and punishes dedicated families who are already overwhelmed.
I strongly urge DMAS to listen to the voices of parent caregivers and restore the EVV live-in exemption so we can continue to prioritize our children's direct care without added mental and administrative burdens.
