I am curious to know if perhaps substandard care was made legal because of the special/conflict of interests of a few individuals within our government? Senator Todd Pillion is a dentist, here in Virginia. He also had to report $250,000 from funds he received from a dental office. Curious if he might have any ties to that pediatric dental office, located in Bristol? Or is it just PURE coincidence that Senator Pillion is also a pediatric dentist in Bristol? I guess it would make perfect sense as to why he would want “above the gum line” dental cleanings, since he works at a pediatric office. I have personally seen teenagers that come from pediatric offices, that have a ton of subgingival calculus built up. I would assume that is probably from receiving this sort of disservice, that is now legal to provide to anyone! Because they definitely didn’t say this legislation is limited to children. Even though children deserve proper care and services, too! Also, as a dental hygienist, I cannot numb anyone under the age of 18. Therefore, many of these kids probably felt as if they were being TORTURED from having all that subgingival calculus removed with just a little topical gel. Also, there is such a thing called juvenile periodontitis. Why would we want to subject children to such a disease, that can be prevented with PROPER care and preventive services? I have also heard that there are others with ties to dentistry. However, I also know that is “hard to prove” this conflict of interest.. but seems to me that these people should have to prove they DON’T have a special/conflict of interest. Because there should be ZERO reason to legislate negligent legislation that could cause systemic disease. Once bone has been eaten away by this bacteria, it is gone! It’s not coming back and that bacteria will always be present.. it’s absolutely unacceptable, is what it is.. should be ashamed!
