Data center waste heat reuse isn't some experimental idea, it's already standard practice at facilities across Europe, where the heat that used to just get dumped into the atmosphere now gets piped straight into homes and buildings nearby. It's a relatively simple concept: these facilities are running 24/7 and generating a constant stream of heat as a byproduct anyway, so instead of throwing that energy away, it gets captured and reused for something people actually need. As data centers keep expanding here in the US, especially with AI driving so much new construction, we have a real opportunity to build that heat recovery in from the start rather than treating it as an afterthought. It's a practical way to get more value out of infrastructure we're building regardless, and it's worth pushing for now, while these facilities are still in the design phase, rather than retrofitting later. Europe didn't wait for perfect conditions to start doing this, there's no reason the US should either.
