There is a language change in the proposed standards that would require children to sit when eating or drinking anything. This is not only impractical- children often remain standing while taking a water break outside, for example- but is directly harmful to children with disabilities and/or sensory needs who might prefer to eat standing at a table. As long as they remain still, there is no safety concern regarding children standing while eating. Additionally, how does this language impact the use of water fountains, which require standing to use?
I urge you to return to the old language of "No child shall be allowed to eat or drink while walking around". It keeps children safe while allowing flexibility to accommodate different needs.
