My name is Savannah Taylor. My children attend Andy's Room Childcare in South Arlington, Virginia. Well, I think I understand the reason for the proposed regulation I have to admit that I am not in agreement because of the costs to my childcare program.
if this proposal were to pass, my provider would be forced to purchase several sets of EpiPens in an effort to cover the age ranges of the children in her care. Those EpiPens being on site would then require her and her staff to attend additional professional development training to learn the proper usage of this medication and the signs to watch for should a child go into anaphylaxis.
For the sake of argument, let's assume her cost for these pins would be $800 annually. I suspect that most providers would pass that fee onto their clients. This makes good quality childcare less affordable for many families at a time when it's already in line with the monthly mortgage payment.
Furthermore, I am not sure that I could ever feel comfortable, putting powerful medication in the hands of my provider Or anyone else who is not trained as a medical professional. For those reasons and so many other others, I have to be in opposition of this mandate.
Thank you for listening to, and taking my perspective into consideration.
