I am a lifelong Virginian and a woman athlete. I oppose this bad faith and mean-spirited rule. Unlike most of the people leaving comments claiming to “protect women”, I am actually a female athlete who played on a team with a trans woman. We lost most games and were ranked last in our league. The idea that people would transition to gain an athletic advantage or to make others feel unsafe in the bathroom of their choice is ludicrous. Enforcing gender roles is what actually makes girls unsafe—there is a long history of mandated genital inspection for competition, which is actually the creepy part. Let trans girls be girls and stop this hateful nonsense.
