I live in Arlington and I oppose Petition 432. As a lifelong feminist and the mother of a young girl, I am extremely concerned about the growing attacks on women’s rights and bodily autonomy in our state and across the country. There are so many challenges facing women and girls today - including limited access to health care services, discrimination, and sexual harassment and abuse, online and in person - but transgender people are NOT a threat. Excluding transgender women and girls from women’s spaces is unnecessary and cruel, and it will harm all women and girls. I do not want my daughter or myself to be subjected to invasive tests or to scrutiny by members of the public empowered by this petition and recent anti-trans Executive Orders to judge whether we are sufficiently feminine when we are just trying to use a locker room, restroom, or other space in public or school facilities. Let kids play. Let transgender people live. And let’s focus on the real threats to women and girls.
