Optometrists using lasers is not new. Multiple states already allow optometrists to perform specific laser procedures, allowing local and timely access to care. Optometrists are educated, trained, and certified to perform the procedures outlined in the regulations. As knowledge within the specialty accelerates and grows, health professionals are expected to utilize their skills, knowledge, and training to enhance their scope of services to benefit the communities served.
