I support cruise tourism for our historic triangle region

I am a resident of James City County. Having partaken in many cruises across the world, I would have the experience and critical thinking skills to opine.

  1. Bar Harbor Maine is a Cruise destination in America. this step included many stops in Canada. I have witnessed no environmental impacts associated with crusie ships on this tour of Canada and New England. At Bar Harbor we used tender ships from off shore to ferry income generating customers to and from the ship. Having Cruised the rivers of Europe if, there was a real environmental issue, socialist Europe would have put a stop to traversing navigable rivers there. I have seen no impact personally and of course I am a wastewater consultant with the experience to identify issues.
  2. Cruise ships are clean. Are there is issues from time to time? Yes, but the ability to creat safe and clean effluent that can be off loaded before reaching the bay is a reliable process. The same process is allowed for our Military ships that come and go the same York River.
  3. Bus access to Yorktown, Williamsburg and Jamestown will drive economic prosperity to James City County and York County. I feel we have yet to understand the true goals of Protect Virginia. Protect Virginia petition is a environmental scare tactic for alternative reasons not to allow income generating business that could in fact help fund DEQ for more worthy issues like rising sea level, shore restoration, septic system failures, Chesapeake bay restoration and state park enhancements to wastewater treatment plants etc.
  4. We should allow cruise ships and I would petition Virginia legislation to allocate tax money that is generated be used for more worthy causes of protecting the environment. I am sure DEQ has a long list of wishes that goes underfunded. I can name many if you need help.
