Short and simple, shad have a long history with American independence and the Virginia story.  We need to do what we can to protect them.  All the surrounding states have recognized the need to protect them, it is our turn to do the same.  Across the region, a lot of research has been done.  These fish are a regional resource.   It is time to protect these threatened species and our history.
