Allowing LRIs to be paid caregivers has been transformative for our child’s well-being. He feels more secure with consistent, familiar care and a reliable schedule, rather than being subjected to an endless rotation of strangers. Our family no longer needs to disclose his diagnosis, risking judgment or misunderstanding from those who don’t fully grasp his needs. We request that Objective Written Documentation be removed, while keeping LRIs as paid caregivers without the additional burden of proof. It is often difficult to find people willing to work for low wages and no benefits. Providing respite care for unpaid LRIs would be a valuable way to support families, offering relief when they can find temporary help, even if not full-time care for their loved ones.
