The misinformation dominating the public conversation about this plant is a travesty. Kratom has been a godsend for multitudes struggling with the horrors of opioid addiction- this is unquestionable for anyone who seriously considers the available information and testimonials. Overdose is almost impossible, and the handful of purported incidents are nearly always attributable to other drugs. From a harm-reduction standpoint alone, Kratom deserves ADVOCACY rather than criminalization. Listing the active alkaloids as Schedule I narcotics is not only absurd, it will create an enormous additional burden for the already-overstressed Law Enforcement community and Court system. It will also criminalize many thousands- perhaps millions- of ordinary, hard-working and productive Americans. Do not pursue this; it is folly.
