potential for abuse and dependence

Factor 2: Scientific Evidence of its Pharmacological Effects
Kratom's primary active compounds, mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, act on the mu-opioid receptors, producing effects similar to those of opioids such as morphine and heroin. These effects include analgesia, euphoria, and sedation at higher doses, and stimulant effects at lower doses[20]. The pharmacological profile of kratom supports its potential for abuse and dependence.
