The FDA recently conducted a human dose-finding study, which found that no significant adverse events occurred when participants took kratom, even at high doses.
The finding, which the FDA presented at a scientific conference in February 2024, was that “kratom appears to be well-tolerated at all dose levels,”.
It is imperative that we trust our scientists and keep kratom legal so we can continue to research this amazing plant as it has a huge potential for good.
The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994 allows for the marketing of traditional medicines and dietary supplements. Under this law, products that were marketed as dietary supplements before 1994 are generally considered safe unless proven otherwise. While we are uncertain when Kratom was first marketed as a dietary supplement, it is clear that the spirit of this law needs to be considered strongly with kratom, as kratom has hundreds of years of long term use and is recognized as safe in healthy communities where it has been used without social or physical harm since before history.
