There is no valid argument for the use of shackles on preganant women. It offers a possible threat to the baby by restricting the mother's movements and does nothing to aid in safety for the staff. I also feel that it reflects badly on the state, reinforcing negative images of the South. We are one of the few states that allow it and I don't really understand why this is even being debated, I mean it just seems kind of obvious, don't put shackles on women during childbirth.
