Against menhaden purse seining

As a mother or two teen agers in the Annapolis area who loved to fish for rockfish with us and their Grandparents I can say for certain the kids have given it up because it’s not fun anymore. When we cross the Annapolis bridge where there were 100s of private and charter boats 10 years ago now you might see one or two. It’s pathetic. This has a made a huge void in our lives and the lives of millions of Marylanders and hundreds of thousands of kids. Chesapeake Bay was world famous for rock fishing but when you at the VMRC allow purse seining to take every school of menhaden coming into the bay cutting off their food supply, you have ended one of the great traditions we Marylanders shared . There is a very simple solution to make up for what has happened… just have them fish in the US Atlantic Zone away from the bay entrance…They already go to NY to find fish  . Please keep in mind that our striped bass spawning stock and ospreys  , the two species the ASMfC says are “indicators “ of menhaden over harvesting, are both in reproductive failure. The bay ecosystem is being sacrificed for special interests in Virginia.
