I urge VMRC to develop regulation to regulate the depth of purse seine nets in Chesapeake Bay in order to prevent disturbance to bottom dwelling organisms and to prevent tearing nets. Recent studies indicating Menhahaden overfishing and inefficient fishing techniques are affecting Osprey and other bird populations, and fish populations. Menhaden fishing must be better regulated to ensure a stable population of menhaden and other creatures that live in the Bay.
