This type of harvesting technique, and any like it, is to the benefit of a very few, but a detriment to the wildlife that depend on it. Mass harvesting of menhaden also indirectly impacts the recreational and commercial fishing complex through a lag effect such harvesting has on game fish/fishing.

Why do private enterprises have a right to take seemingly unlimited quantities of a foundational species that can change the balance of ocean ecosystems? Short term profiteering for the few? Who is benefitting and who/what is losing?
