Former Commercial Fisherman, now fishing guide

Purse seiners scoop and kill, breeding stock striped bass. From Virginia to Maine where I live, I’ve chased stripers recreational, and now guide them. As a former stern man on commercial lobster boats- the Menhaden ends up stuffed in the traps as lobster bait. Imagine opening barrels of bait caught anywhere from  NJ, VA, to Maine, and finding 40-50” stripers and gags of schoolies, dead in the mix. Purse seiners have no responsibility or control of what they catch. What they kill. Not to mention the loss of forage to grow recreational fisheries worth vastly more than the profits of a few.
