Let the parents being a paid attendant under Consumer Directed be a right, not something to fight fo

Parents are, by far, the best option as paid attendants for our children who qualify for the CCC+ waiver. Why shouldn’t parents be allowed to opt for this option as a right (and alternative to institutional placement) versus having to prove we cannot find other care, be required to jump through hoops like working for an agency to care for our own children, documenting tasks daily, using EVV, and having the state track our whereabouts so we can simply provide a cheaper option for the state than having a facility or agency care for our children who, as history has proven, does not provide as quality of support? Virginia is a state known for its educational freedom and parental rights. This should fall under those laws. Parents should have the right to choose how our disabled children are cared for, including the choice of being the paid attendant, under the waiver that our children qualify for.  And for being a parent caregiver, we should not be subject to additional oversight that is intrusive to our privacy, like EVV, as we are already being visited by service facilitators and have many more eyes on our children through multiple provider visits and appointments that non-disabled children are not subject to.
