Consumer Direct Care for Spouses & Children

It baffles me too know this is a matter up for discussion. I’ve been in healthcare for over 23yrs.  I seen the worse and the best care. I’ve worked for agencies, hospitals, nursing homes and myself in home health. I am a mother, a spouse full time because there is no part time titles mentally, physically, emotionally etc. I was blessed to have healthy children, so I was able to work outside the home. But, if hood had given me a child that needed my care 24/7 I would with no doubt stay at home and provide that care. If the day comes that I would have to take care of my spouse, I would 100% do the same for him. The home care that’s givens by a love can’t be matched with the care give by a stranger. We ho above and beyond, we break ourselves down to make sure they are, clean, feed, bathe, comfortable, make it to the doctor, given meds, all while tending to all the other things that require our attention. As I stated before Aides and Nurses sometimes have no bedside care. We as family have real love, compassion and hope.  Why, should have to go out work a minimum wage job and still have to come home and do the work of a Caregiver? When we can be at home as the caregiver and be paid for it. Like I stated before I’ve seen the worse sides of the healthcare and I wouldn’t put my love ones in the care of those people. Would you, trust them with your child or spouse. Have you seen the outcome of people who are cared for by overworked and underpaid staff? The day may come when my reality is your reality with no option of it just being dry ink on a piece of paper that effects the caregiver & their spouse or child.
