Case Managers Qualifications

The list of degrees a TCM case manager can have (on page 6) only includes 7 specific degrees. This will exclude many existing experienced case managers across Virginia because their degrees aren't on this short list, even if they have relevant degrees, experience & certifications. If you have a degree in Human Services but not Human Services Counseling you aren't eligible? Sociology is okay but not Cognitive Sciences? The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services has a pdf for QHMPs, "Approved Degrees in Human Services and Related Fields", updated 6/17, that lists 29 - TWENTY NINE - qualifying degrees & states, "While the list below is comprehensive, it may not be all-inclusive given how education institutions may rename their degrees. Providers need to insure that the major studied as well as the classes taken must meet the intent of a Human Services degree ".

It is hard to understand why DMAS would seek to limit the brain injury TCM provider pool in this way when a simple language change (either using language the way DBHDS does or by saying something like "including but not limited to" when describing approved degrees.

If this very limiting language is kept, please consider adding a provision to grandfather in otherwise qualified currently employed brain injury case managers with degrees in non-conforming fields.
