I am writing in opposition to 11vac20-20-40 Charitable gaming authorization for electronic gaming, further gouging the funds my local American Legion Post uses to help veterans in need as well as the needs of our community. We are a charitable organization and what little funds we do accumulate during each year, these funds go back to our citizens and the community. I have been very active in support of many charitable organizations, not only giving of my time but monetary donations as well. By collecting additional funds by passing this bill, collecting 40% of already meager amounts, this means i won’t have to give of my time or giving up any of my hard earned dollars, as this will be taken care of by the funds generated from the collection of gaming receipts. If our lawmakers keep gouging, a lot of our organizations will most likely close their doors. I would like to know where these additional funds collected would end up. Also i would like to meet the person or persons who proposed this bill and the rationale behind it. I think there are more important agenda items to consider than taking what little funds that are available and ultimately end up back in the community as a charitable thing to do, so how can you get any more charitable than that. Charity is to be given from the kindness of your heart, giving to those less fortunate. Now our law makers want to dictate who gets charity and who doesn’t. I hate to think what our next proposal will be.
