Please reject the proposed amendments to  1VAC20-7. These amendments restrict the ability of citizens to determine how they are goverened by limiting the pool of eligible voters. Every effort should be taken to ensure that as many votes as possible are counted, and any changes to election law should further this goal. The Brennan Center for Justice found that new and proposed voting restrictions in various states "fall most heavily on young, minority, and low-income voters, as well as on voters with disabilities." Marginalizing any section of the population is unacceptable for a democracy, especially in regard to voting eligibility. Please hold the Commonwealth to a higher standard. Ensure that government for the people is of the people and by the people.
