The Law of Unintended Consequences

Although I can't pretend to understand the motivation behind this proposal, I do understand its consequences. It seems to me that the provision of adoptions for needy children will decrease with this list of requirements.  If this law were to pass, it would require some adoption agencies to comply with laws against their own religious teachings.  Such a requirement would then force some agencies to either flout their own faith or not provide adoption services any longer.  I think a majority would close. As a result, children will be less well served by a law that I believe its proponents intended to improve adoption services.  I suspect that this proposed law will not help to serve any needy babies or children but will instead assuage the 21st century sensibilities of its proponents.  Please do not pass this law; regardless of its intentions, its effect will be fewer adoption agencies. That cannot be a good thing.
